Located in California, Totally Bamboo is devoted to continually designing bamboo products that are innovative improvements over wooden products. Their factory is ISO 9000 compliant, which is a rating system covering non-polluting environmental issues and employee welfare. Bamboo is actually a species of grass known for its strength vs. weight ratio, being 16 % harder than maple wood, 1/3 lighter in weight than oak, making it ideal for chopping boards. With its anti-bacterial properties, an attribute most important when preparing food, bamboo kitchen accessories are a superior alternative to wood. Bamboo is a completely renewable resource taking only 5 1/2 years to grow to harvestable height, compared to hardwoods that have a 30 to 60-year growth cycle.
Totally Bamboo's products are made with premium grade "Moso" timber bamboo that is not a food source or habitat for pandas. Beautifully designed using end-grain, flat-grain or vertical-grain, select from a choice of two colors, natural light or dark. The dark is achieved by steaming the bamboo, which brings out the natural sugars, then caramelizing them. This color is permanent and will not fade or wash away. Bamboo is difficult to glue together so most companies use formaldehyde to accomplish this. Totally Bamboo owners hired a chemist to develop a high grade, non-toxic version, so their products are glued together with their own certified proprietary non-formaldehyde food grade adhesive. In using their chopping board for months now, it still looks new because of bamboo's hardness, is wonderfully light-weight and does not impart any flavor. When cutting ingredients, released juices tend to remain on the board's surface rather than be absorbed, keeping it more sanitary than wood and truly easy to clean.
Totally Bamboo Chopping Board
Totally Bamboo's 3-bowl Prep Board is as functional as it is beautiful. This parquet end-grain board is easy on knives, and with its heavy duty 1 1/2-inch thick construction will look great and last for years. The 3/4-inch high feet, with non-skid pads, keep it stable. Offering an extensive range of sizes and styles in chopping boards, rolling pins, serving bowls and plates, kitchen carts, counter tops, even chairs, the next time you consider wood for an item, try bamboo. Not only is using bamboo a viable alternative, it's becoming a way of life.
